How to Write at the Beach Today in 3 Easy Steps

For most of us, the view outside today looks something like this:

If you're LUCKY, it looks like this:

It's difficult to enjoy the moment, especially when you can't go outside because it's so cold. We know warmer days are coming, but it can seem like they're so far away. In just a few months, we'll all be missing cooler temperatures:

But if you're dreaming of warmer days, there's something you can do right now to help. If you're a writer--or you do something that requires shutting out outside noise--this is especially effective. After a few minutes, you'll swear that if you look up from your computer screen, you'll see this:

Here are three easy steps that will put you right on that sand.

Step 1-Put on your favorite pair of headphones.

2-Close your eyes.

3-Push play on the below video, available on YouTube.

Works like a charm every time. (Well, once you get past the ad!)

  1. I wonder if they have a mountain one? (I'm not a beach person.)
I don't have to wait for warmer temperatures. Right now it's well below freezing. Sunday it will be mid seventies. No wonder everyone is sick with all this yo-yo weather.

    1. The problem with mountains is that there's not much sound, I guess? Unless someone took their camera into the mountains and shot nature sounds. I found this one of Smoky Mountain rain. (And now that 80s song is stuck in my head): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7qukUiAjWc

  2. Sounds interesting, but it is currently airing where I live, so the idea of the beach seems weird right now. Come to think of it, I haven't been to a beach in so long.

    1. It's been two years for me but before that, it was something like eight! Florida is in my husband's sales territory and I keep telling him we need to take a trip down there!

  4. I wanted to take my dog for a walk yesterday, but it was so cold I couldn't stand it. Then in the summer I'll want to take him for a walk and it'll be too hot for a walk. I have to get the in-between's. It's supposed to warm up for the weekend, in the 40's. Heat Wave.
We vacation at the beach and the waves rock me to sleep every night!!!

    1. Yes, here in Nashville it's 90 degrees from April to November and it USED to be cold the rest of the year. Now it's just weird. The weather makes no sense. We'll have 19-degree nights one week and 50-degree days the next. Strange! I haven't even worn my coat most of this winter.

  5. I have never tried listening to the ocean or white noise but I have always found listening to inspiring music that fits the mood of what I am writing works well for me. Maybe I will have to give this a try, if I can keep my mind from wandering off into daydreams of warm sand between my toes.

    1. I've slept with a white noise machine in the bedroom since I was in elementary school! I can't sleep without it.

    1. I agree. Plus, it's great for shutting off noise around you if you need to concentrate.

  7. Luckily, my yard is closer to the second picture today, so I will enjoy it until the sun melts it all away.

  13. You're so wise. I think that's why I'm a writer, I really enjoy altering my reality at will.

  14. Oh, the ad is always the problem, isn't it? It annoys me so much.....

  15. I'm so tired of winter! I'd rather not do that though because eventually I have to face reality and the cold outside. That'll just suck too much.

  16. Ha, I love this! Confession... I live in Florida. So it hasn't been bitter cold here. But I love the advice and I'll have to pass this on. :)

  17. Well, so far our winter has been more like spring. Temperature of 80 degrees is forecast for today. We even have the strong, 20-mile-per-hour winds. Later, I'll put rocks in my pockets to take my daily walk. Great post.

  23. I like to go to beach to enjoy the cool breeze and to see the waves. I have not read anything in beach:)

  24. I gotta say, your version of the beach sounds a lot better than the actual beach. The actual beach is just filled with screaming people and sand in everything lol.
