Cover Reveal: Operation Pucker Up by Rachele Alpine

Today I have an exciting cover to reveal. Meet Rachele Alpine:

Rachele and I have the same agent and editor, so I always joke that we must be somehow related. Rachele is the author of Canary, a book that you MUST read if you love life-changing YA. Today, I'm part of Rachele's exciting cover reveal for her first novel with Aladdin M!x. You're going to love it.

Ready?

Here it is!

Is that cover not pure awesomeness? And, guess what? IceyBooks is giving away a Barnes and Noble gift card and pack of lip smackers, so be sure to check out the giveaway on their site.

Here's the blurb:

Haddie Shaw is thrilled to pieces when she wins the coveted lead role in her school play. That is, until she realizes she’ll have to kiss Prince Charming. On the lips. And not only is Prince Charming—a.k.a James Lowe—the most popular boy in school, but Haddie has never, ever been kissed.

To help, Haddie’s two best friends create Operation Pucker Up—a plan for Haddie to score a kiss before opening night so she doesn’t make total fool of herself in front of a live audience. If that weren’t enough to think about, Haddie’s father, who left six months ago, suddenly walks back into her life. Haddie, her mom and sister have bonded as the “Terrific Three” – and while two of the “Three” welcome Dad back with open arms, Haddie isn’t sure she can forgive and forget.

With Operation Pucker Up spinning out of control, and opening night fast approaching, will Haddie manage to get her happily ever after—both on-stage and off?

  2. I think we might...although my first and second book had completely different illustrators and another cover I thought was by the same illustrator (Gail Nall's) was by a third illustrator. I love them all!

  12. Congratulations, Rachele!

I love that cover! I know I'm biased, but there's just something so much more personal about a hand-drawn cover instead of purely digital design. It lets the reader use more imagination in picturing the characters, instead of having exact photographic representations.

  13. I like drawn covers, too, Carrie-Anne. Picture covers are okay, but drawn covers are so much more fun--so many more possibilities! And I LOVE cartoony covers, especially for children's books.

  27. Hi Stephanie,

If you don't always have the same illustrator, I am betting that, like yourself and Rachele, they are somehow related! LOL

I am not so keen on this type of cover art on adult fiction books and generally tend to avoid them, as 'chick-lit'. However, for the YA market I think they are eye-catching and scream 'read me', to any young person.

I checked out 'Canary' and that is definitely one fo my list. So long as the outcome is the 'right' one in the end, then this type of book should be a 'must read' for young people, as unfortunately this scenario appears to be becoming more and more commonplace in today's progressive society!

    Nice post and feature, thanks.

  43. Interesting!
The play kiss. I had that little dilemma in college when an acting class I took demanded that I kiss the other actor in our two-person play. I just didn't want to.
    Kids will like this!

  49. Congrats to Rachele.

That is a well done cover. My daughter is still a few years away from that type of book, but she is now drawn to the cover art of the titles she reads--it certainly sets the tone for a book.

  52. I love the cover for Operation Pucker Up! The story sounds like a great plot which most young adults will relate to while having an even more important underlying theme... which I'm sure will be revealed as the protagonist's father appears more in the story. Best of luck when the release comes out!
