U is for Upside-Down Cake

This month I'm participating in the A to Z Challenge. My theme is indulgences. Today's letter is:

U was tough. I thought of Uno's Pizzeria...

But I've already done pizza and deep dish is just pizza casserole. My husband came up with Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, which is a U if you leave out the "pineapple" part.

It has all my favorite elements in a dessert--pineapple, cake, maraschino cherries... But it reminds me of a recipe I borrowed from The Cheesecake Factory a few years ago for Pineapple Upside-Down Cheesecake. Whoa, that was a lot of work, but it was delish. How about a picture of their version?

Can you think of an indulgence that starts with "U?"

  6. Here's mine: Umbrellas that are really huge and held by a tall handsome man so that you can stay completely dry without having to try hard.

  9. Birgit--It's a cheesecake layer. That's what I love about The Cheesecake Factory--their cheesecakes don't even taste like cheesecakes! Ours always has a ridiculous wait, though, and it's in a part of town that's impossible to get to, so I haven't been in at least two or three years.

  10. Yum, I love pineapple upside down cake, and I haven't had it in quite a while. Might have to put that on the menu soon. :-)
By the way, your little bookmarks are adorable.

  11. Thank you, Debi! I had a great cover designer and the bookmark designer did a great job, too. I found her on Elance.

  12. Uno's pizza? I haven't had their food in forever. :)

  13. I know, David. We don't have them in TN and when we go to Chicago, we go to one of the other deep dish places, usually. I did see it in the frozen section at Publix recently. Wonder if the frozen version is good?

  14. You had me at Uno's pizza. Now, I want to go to Chicago for some of the best deep dish pizza around!

  15. MMMM...I like Pineapple upside down cake. As far as the U goes, there is Una de Gato (or Cat's Claw) from Peru that is an immune system booster. It was researched for fighting cancer.

  19. Mmm. You make me want to go hit Cheesecake Factory.

My indulgences that start with U? Unconventional utterances. Yes! Strange language. Unusual words. =)

  21. That looks super yummy! I've only ever made one upside down desert, it was an apple pie for a cookbook I was doing with a friend (it was her recipe but my job was to provide photographs so I had to bake the things to shoot them). It didn't turn out well LOL (https://www.flickr.com/photos/rhonda-parrish/5117678949/in/set-72157627641804305)

  22. We always eat at Uno's when we visit my daughter in Boston. Everything there is yummy. I don't care for pineapple but I make a mean apple upside down cake.

  25. Y'know what's weird? I don't believe I've ever, ever had an upside down cake. I've always thought they look yummy though.

  26. I can't think about food today...

I don't know about an indulgence that starts with U. I'm so awful at coming up with anything on the spot. Give me some time to think on it...

  27. You and your husband's ideas are way better than mine. I am stuck on ukelele and I don't even know hot to play one.

  28. Yum! My mom used to make pineapple upside-down cake all the time. As much as I had it growing up, I don't think I've ever made it for my kids! I might have to remedy that!

The one from The Cheesecake Factory looks AMAZING! I love that place!

  29. Ukulele tunes are an indulgence for some. Very few, but some. :-)

  31. My mother-in-law used to make a killer pineapple upside-down cake. Even though I have her recipe, I've never been able to duplicate it.

  32. I've always been tempted to make upside-down cake. I have a gazillion recipes for it but haven't tried it. Is it really as good as it looks?

Other indulgences…we have a restaurant called Unburger here that is pretty darn good!

Peach upside-down cake-is good as well.
