L is for Lace

This month I'm participating in the A to Z Challenge. My theme is indulgences. Today's letter is:

My choice for L shows my girly side. Whether it's clothes or purses, I tend to be drawn to a particular type of fabric.

I probably would have done well in the Victorian era!

The only problem is, lace is hard to clean. You can't just toss it in the washer and dryer. But I have plenty of clothes with lace trim that can be washed and dried, as well as a lace makeup bag...

And lace Betsey Johnson slippers...

What's your favorite type of fabric?

  1. Though not a big fan of lace, it's too delicate and I'm too clumsy, I love that make-up bag.

As for my favourite material? I can't say I have one though there are numerous textiles I DON'T like the feel of, suede being one of them.

  2. I love cashmere, fleece, any soft fabric that keeps me warm. Maybe if my phone didn't show "26°“ in the upper left corner I'd be able to think beyond the practical.

  3. The fabric I tend to be drawn to the most is probably at the other end of the spectrum - leather. I'm drawn to it like a magnet. I love the feel, the smell, and its crinkly sound.

  4. Anything that doesn't require ironing, lol. Fun topic for the letter 'L'!

  5. Hmm, I like lace sometimes - it depends on what I'm wearing! I love cotton for PJs, silk for dressing up, leather for fun :) (the innocent kind - I just realized how that sounded, LOL)

  7. I've used lace on my cards:) It gives a nice look but definitely girlie. the make up bag is nice. I love velvet-always looks so lush and I love the smell of leather

  8. That make-up bag is gorgeous! I don't wear a lot of lace, as I find it too stiff and I don't often dress up, but I do like how it looks. I'm more of a soft fabric person-- cotton or cashmere.

    No wool... too itchy. :)

  9. Is it wrong that the first thing that popped into my head when I read the title of this post was "Arsenic and Old Lace?" :)

  10. Pretty slippers. I've always been a fan of lace, but I remember how much I loved real silk when I was younger. I'm also a big fan of linen, as long as I don't have to iron it. =)

  12. Perla--I'm definitely a girly-girl!

  13. I love that both your examples were black lace. Definitely the best kind.

I'm partial to smooth, silky textures myself.

  14. I love lace too ... it's so delicate and old fashioned and modern all at the same time ...

  17. I like lace and have used it to decorate lots of things. I've been sewing for years. But usually for wearing, I prefer cotton or something you don't have to iron, especially here in the desert where we get 115 degree temps in the summer.

    Nice subject for this letter.

  19. Hey Stephanie, thanks for dropping by and for your generous comments! :-)

I'm not at all a fan of lace - I guess I'm too clumsy for it! My favourite material is cotton and I'm also a big fan of linen - both super comfortable but ugh.. too much pain with the ironing! Waah :-(

Good luck with the challenge! And yes, I'm gonna get my hands on 30 days of no gossip! I am very intrigued if one does survive at all at the end of 30days! LoL!

  20. Yay! Thank you, Rama. I have to admit, I couldn't survive 30 days...and I work from home. When I was in an office every day, I couldn't survive 30 minutes!

  21. I don't have a favourite fabric for myself, and I've never been fashion conscious, but my main female characters all end up in lace at some stage, however strong the character is.
Personally, and as a writer, I find the thought of the strong female character and the soft femininity of the lace to be a superb match.

  22. Yes! I love lace! My fav clothes have lace or crochet details to them. Oh, and anything w/sequins, rhinestones or pearls. I know. I'm such a gii-irrl. :D Though for boots I like suede ones best. Because then I can kind of pad around in them, and it makes me feel like a pirate. Especially if there's buckles on them somewhere!

  23. I'm not a big fan of lace but I really like those slippers

  24. Love the lace make-up bag! The slippers are totally cute too! I find myself drawn to black and pink also.
I didn't think I was a big lace person, but I love both the items you showed, so maybe I am....

I got a good laugh from the comment by Liz. Leather in the innocent way. LOL!

  25. Love your theme of indulgences! There is something about lace that screams out elegance. Thanks for sharing!

  26. I like touches of lace, but not too much because it feels uncomfortable.

However, let me just say I do love that pink and black lace bag!

I guess my favorite material is anything with a little spandex in it. A little stretch is best.

  27. Fun topic Stephanie.

I had to think about your question today. My fav type of fabric has to be anything that is easy to clean. I do not have the best track record in eating Italian food or something and not spilling it on me.

  28. I love cotton. I have a pretty serious cotton fetish, really. Preferably old, worn out cotton, which is super soft and comfy.

    Great slippers, though!

  29. Stephanie,

I used to love dressing my girls in lace when they were younger. I am more of a denim and T shirt girl. I love fabrics that don't need ironing!

  30. Lace can be so elegant! I'm drawn to denim myself :)

  31. Hi Stephanie, even I am fond of lace. Yes its tricky to wash, a couple of times my lacy tops have got spoilt when they have been washed with an entire lot of other clothes in the machine. Hand washing is the best option.

  32. I had a lace tablecloth handed down from my grandmother that I loved. It eventually just disintegrated. I love the sheepskin side of my Sherpa blanket.

  33. I'm pretty tomboyish when it comes to clothes, but I do LOVE Silk. Silk is lovely!

  36. I'm not a big fan of lace, although when I saw the title I thought about the book and miniseries, which I love.

  37. Cotton is my favorite-- the coolest, comfiest stuff to own in my part of the world.
