A is for Apps

This month I'm participating in the A to Z Challenge. My theme is indulgences. Today's letter is:

One of my biggest indulgences? Apps!

I love loading my iPhone down with apps. My favorites?

Songpop, which I play while walking on my treadmill. An hour can fly by when you're Songpopping. I just learned at one time it was Mark Zuckerberg's favorite app, so I'm in good company!

Spotify, which I discovered two weeks ago, thanks to the fact that if you like a song on Songpop, you can add it to your Spotify playlist directly from the app. Spotify is awesomeness defined!

And, of course, I'd be lost without my Google Maps. Literally.

What are your favorite apps? Be sure to check the comments. You may find some great suggestions from others!

  1. I don't have a lot of apps on my phone. I guess my favorite would be Words with Friends. I love Scrabble :-)

  2. Ooh, Apps is a great one for letter A! My phone is bombarded by apps. Between my kids downloading them (and the few I have), my phone jams up at times. LOL

I did recently have to delete Disney's Frozen. It took up way too much space.

  3. I live in the dark ages and don't have a smart phone - I'd have the kindle App if I needed it though, since I loaded it onto my laptop and couldnt live without it.
    Great start!

  4. My phone is so old... I have no idea if it even has any apps.

  5. Many of the feature phones don't, Kristin. Life is probably much more enjoyable without apps making you stare at your phone screen all day!

  6. My children hog the apps on the ipad. As for my phone, it's only a semi-intelligent phone, but I would really love the kindle app! Phone upgrade soon?

  7. Love my Kindle app, Tamara! If ever I'm unexpectedly stranded somewhere, I can pull up whatever book I've been reading at home and start reading! If I know I'm going to have a delay (like yesterday), I take my Kindle with me, though. The big screen is much easier to read than that tiny screen.

  8. I would be dead by now without Google Maps. Seriously. I would have had a heart attack :) I also love my Buffer app - essential for social media! Oh, and I might have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Spider Solitaire...

  9. I'm not super mobile, so the only apps I use are on my kindle. I love the Twitter app, and I adore Pandora.

  10. Hahaha....I'd be lost without Google Maps too:D I think my fave is Netflix:P

  11. I have an Android phone and love Out of Milk (a cool shopping list app). It updates with my husband's phone, so when shopping, we don't overlap.

  12. Fun theme! I have an android phone and am always trying out new apps. I read a lot of long articles on my phone and Pocket is indispensable. I also do quick editing of photos before uploading them to my blog or facebook. Snapseed is my go to photo editor but I have about 10 others on my phone that I use for specific purposes (fixing perspective, changing depth of field, etc.)

  13. Great app suggestions! I'm going to have to try some of these. I've been using Grocery IQ for shopping lists. Crystal--I used Pandora until I heard they were charging $5 a month on the news. I misunderstood and thought they were talking about the free version (they weren't!) and skipped over to Spotify. By the time I heard Pandora would still be free, I was already hooked on Spotify. I just add whatever songs I want to hear to my playlist and they play. (In random order, unfortunately, but when I get sick of one, I remove it!)

  14. The grandboys love to download apps for the Kindle Fire. Too many, lol. But I actively avoid things that might become a timesuck!

  15. Cate, that's a wise idea! SongPop is definitely a time suck. If there's a day when I can't walk on the treadmill but I feel like I have to keep up with it, I get on there and realize it takes a full hour to play 32 challenges from friends (usually what I have each day!). An hour is way too much. What's really scary, though, is that usually I'm playing SongPop on my treadmill and even THAT isn't enough to take my mind off walking. So I have my Kindle open and while the app is loading the next challenge, I read a few paragraphs. My inability to slow down even for a second scares even me sometimes!

  16. Thanks so much for guest posting on Friday. Wonderful post, wonderful comments.

I've never used spotify or the other one (see I've forgotten the name and will have to scroll back up!). Unfortunately, the app I use most often is my Amazon app. It's an impulse shopper's curse!

  17. Me too, Elizabeth! I also discovered the eBay app, which can be deadly. There's so much on eBay, though, I usually end up getting bored after a while and abandoning it.

    Thanks for hosting me!

  18. Sounds dumb, but my favorite app on my phone is the Facebook app. It just makes life so much easier. Need to get a hold of a friend, but you don't have their number? Facebook them! Need to upload a picture real quick before you forget? Facebook app! You get the idea :)

  19. When I'm not at home, I think I wear my Facebook and email apps out, checking both of them constantly! It's the same when I'm home. My favorites bar has only Gmail, Facebook, and Twitter and I seem to be checking them compulsively throughout the day! It's a bad, bad habit.

  20. Love your theme! Wish you all the best with the challenge! :)

  21. Other than the facebook app, I like zedge for ringtones and wallpapers. I have that Sweet Brown "Ain't nobody got time for that!" as my ringtone. Of course, the VZnavigator goes without saying...where on earth would we be without someone to speak out the directions to us? My other half is among the last generation who can read a paper map. lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, there are experts who have theorized these younger generations won't be able to tell directions on their own. I have to say, I was raised having to read a map and I never learned how, either. I even have a hard time following the map on Google Maps. Sometimes it's necessary because the narrator doesn't always tell you whether you're supposed to stay left or right on the interstate as you hit a junction!

  23. I love my music - going to have to check out those apps though!!

  24. Lost without your google maps - hahaha! Thanks for the info on the Apps. Great to see you in the A-Z! :)

  25. I'm definitely going to have to check out Songpop! I haven't heard of it before :) I'm a huge fan of my Goodreader app--I use it all the time for reading and organizing work stuff (okay, less than exciting, but still useful!).

  26. I LOVE your theme. I'm a WORDS WITH FRIENDS addict. I just got Kindles and iPads for my classroom so I'm about to embark on checking out cool educational apps for the kiddos.
